“New exhibition by Fabulous Forgetful Friends explores the lived experience of dementia and focuses on the positives”
There is a new exhibition-taking place in Manchester named ‘Beyond Dementia’ which has been created by (thee amazingly named) ‘Fabulous Forgetful Friends’. Fabulous Forgetful Friends is a not-for-profit community interest project based in Manchester. Their aim is to offer a place for people who want to talk about living with dementia, to each other and to professionals.
The Beyond Dementia exhibition includes artworks created by a group of people living with dementia, shown alongside the pieces from the Whitworth’s art collection. The aim of this exhibition was to create art inspired by the true-life experiences of those with dementia, whilst looking past the sadness and emphasising the positives.
“When we speak of dementia we often speak of loss: the loss of memory, the decline in physical functioning, and the progressive loss of self. This view can lead to a further and more problematic loss, the loss of voice, as the stories of people living with dementia are too often ignored. http://www.creativeboom.com/inspiration/beyond-dementia-new-exhibition-explores-the-lived-experience-of-dementia/
The exhibition runs until 17 September 2017 so make sure you check it out!
