Understanding dementia can come in many different forms, some may refer to it simply as people who “forget stuff” or others may like to delve deeper into the psychological meaning of its creation. Either way, dementia is something many of us have heard of and may know too well, but having to try and explain it to a child? Now that’s a whole other story.
I have recently come across an Edinburgh family who decided that they wanted to create a book to help children understand what dementia is and the symptoms of the disease. However due to the ‘Äikäs-Adams’ family having to deal with dementia first hand they wanted to add a unique twist by making this book personlaised.
What’s so great is you a can add the name of your child and their e.g granddad who suffers with dementia to help them see how dementia is impacting their own lives. We at Nudgu think this is a brilliant idea as it’s the perfect way to grab the attention of your child and help them understand why their grandparents may say and do things they cannot understand.
The book contains amazing drawings and portrays such creativity, even though book is currently only in English, they are hoping to expand into many different languages.
The best part is that all the money made from selling the book goes to a dementia charity of your choice!
