I’m sure many of you reading this have heard of the organisation ‘Playlists for life’ and if you haven’t, well prepare for an incredible insight into the power of music. Playlists for life was created to help people suffering with dementia to reconnect with themselves and loved ones through listening to songs that remind them of key moments in their life. The app can be personalised to each person to involve any tracks they want to listen to which have a sentimental meaning.
The organisation’s website gives you a touching video showing how much of an impact the company has had on Harry and his wife Mary’s relationship (heads up, its seriously emotional). You can really see the sheer amount of joy and nostalgia the playlist brings to Harry and from how his wife described him before as being ‘‘gone from her’’ you wouldn’t believe it was the same man.
By creating a way for people suffering with dementia to get in touch with these memories generates so many positive attributes to their life, and something I really believe we should invest in. Being a musician myself I understand how easy it is to capture a feeling and keep it living on forever in music. So no matter whom you are or what type of music you listen to, a connection with music is something everyone has and you cant deny it.
So if I were you I would go and check out the amazing work they are doing and if someone you love is suffering with dementia, just see how life changing this could be for them and you.
